WHAT IS THE DOG LIKE?
A Maremma is a livestock guarding dog. These loyal dogs were bred in Italy for centuries, and protected large herds of sheep both in the mountainous regions, and all the way to the plains. There are other Old World breeds that have a similar temperament as the Maremma, they are the Great Pyrenees in France, the Anatolian , Akbash in Turkey, and the Tibetan Mastiff in Nepal and Tibet. Originally the Maremma lived both day and night side by side their flocks protecting the flock from any predator including frequent life-and-death battles with the wolves. The Marrema will give it's life for the herd, without hesitation.
